Master of Laws (LLM) This is a 1 year full time course in Waterford Institute Technology.
The LL.M. (Master of Laws) is an advanced qualification for law graduates and legal professionals. The programme has been designed in consultation with law professionals in the South-East and beyond to develop specialist legal knowledge which is vital to an evolving legal landscape.
The inclusion of cutting-edge modules including social network law, mediation, media law, financial regulation, and insolvency law together with advanced modules on probate law, medical malpractice law and white collar crime will contribute to both the academic and professional development of the participant in an increasingly competitive market.
Professional lawyers operating in the South-East region will have the opportunity to earn Continuous Professional Development points.
Most LL.M. programmes in Ireland have tended to be academically driven as opposed to being influenced by developments in practice. The LLM at WIT is different and takes cognizance of developments within the profession and the larger legal context. The modules on offer therefore include contemporary topics such as social network law, competition law, cyber crime, insolvency, financial regulation, media law and mediation.
These are combined with advanced modules in Probate Law and Practice, the Law and Practice of Personal Representatives and Medical Law. All modules are both academic and of practical importance.
Modules such as Financial Regulation, Social Network Law, Probate Law and Practice and the Law and Practice of Personal Representatives are unique modules to this LL.M. programme and are not delivered on other general LL.M. programmes in the Republic of Ireland.
