Get back into Education with confidence

The Vocational Training Opportunities Scheme at Gorey Adult Education Centre is recruiting new students for September 2015.

Twenty students will get an opportunity to return to full time education and achieve qualifications in a wide range of skills for employment or to progress to third level education.

VTOS is geared for those who may not have experienced success in their previous time in education but are now interested in getting a quality qualification across a broad range of subjects.

The students work at their studies with lots of support and advice, to build new skills in computers, communications, reading, writing skills, maths and social studies.  Students will also have an opportunity to study practical subjects; cookery, metalwork, woodwork and art.

The course can last for two years, after successfully completing first year and is full time.  Based on the normal school year, it will suit adult learners who have children in primary or secondary school. Childcare support may also be available for those who need it.

The VTOS team welcomes students to an adult learning space that will challenge you but will also give you individual advice and support to make the return to education an enjoyable adventure.

The first year is designed to build a solid foundation of up to date skills, to access employment in today’s economy. In the second year there is the opportunity to acquire a QQI Level 5 qualification in Business or General Studies which will help students to progress to third level education or employment depending on the persons plan.

The words of this year’s students best explain how VTOS works for those interested in a new beginning:

“With the support of VTOS and my classmates, I have not looked back since September.” David O Connell.

“The childcare support helped to make my decision to join this great course” Alannah Kelly.

“We are treated as individuals but we work as a group” David Murphy.

You are welcome to call into the Adult Education Centre in Civic Square opposite the library to discuss your place on the course.  You will not be disappointed.
