What’s involved?

We give people education and training opportunities which will develop their employability. By completing a VTOS course participants will gain recognised national qualifications up to QQI Level 5.

VTOS New Ross provides a supportive environment for learners who wish to return to education at any stage of their adult lives. You will have the chance to update your culinary skills and will be prepared to engage in further education or gain paid employment in the culinary sector.

Who can apply?

In order to qualify for a VTOS course you must be:

  • Aged 21 years and over
  • In receipt of a Social Welfare payment for at least six months or
  • Be the dependant of someone in receipt of a social welfare payment.

At VTOS New Ross we off a two year culinary programme outlined below:

Year 1: QQI Level 4 Culinary Skills

Year 2: QQI Level 5 Professional Cookery

·         Word Processing

The Vocational Training Opportunities Scheme is an educational opportunities scheme for unemployed persons which is funded by the Department of Education and Science. The Scheme is operated through the 16 Education & Training Boards countrywide and provides a special range of courses designed to meet the education and training needs of unemployed people.

The aims of the scheme are:

  • to give unemployed people education and training opportunities which will develop their employability
  • to give participants the opportunity to gain recognised national certification
  • to prepare people to go into paid employment or on to further opportunities leading to paid employment

VTOS Courses

The ETBs operate special VTOS courses which are particularly suitable for persons who have been out of school for some time. The courses are full-time, approximately 30 hours per week (e.g. 6 hours a day for 5 days) and last for up to 2 years.

Certification is available at a range of levels, including Leaving Certificate, and QQI levels 3 – 6

There are no course fees.
